Utility companies and government entities are starting to give rebates for implementing energy saving improvements to homes. However, these rebate programs change regularly so it is best for you to check with your local utility company to see if they offer any rebates for installing a spray-applied radiant attic barrier product, additional insulation, Energy Star products, etc.
Federal Income Tax Credit - PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY
The information currently available from the IRS states that products must be Energy Star rated and/or specified in the IECC 2009 in order to be eligible for deduction from personal Federal Income Taxes. There is no Energy Star rating for radiant barriers- foil or spray applied. Also, the IECC 2009 states that all products must have either an R-value (insulation) or a U-value (windows), neither of which directly apply to any radiant barriers whether they are foil or spray applied.
If a contractor tells you that a particular foil does qualify for the Federal Income Tax Credit, then that product must be attached to an insulation product and it is actually qualifying as insulation, not as a radiant barrier.
Therefore, we cannot provide a Manufacturer's Certification saying our HeatBloc-Ultra qualifies for the Federal Income Tax credit under the current IRS and IECC 2009 language. Our company and RIMA continue to work with the Department of Energy to get an Energy Star approval rating in place for these products. When that happens, we will be sure to put a notice on our website and will notify any contractors listed on our Contractors pages.
